Wilmington Machinery Successfully Installs Complete Custom Pallet Molding Solution for European Customers

The adoption of plastics pallet molding systems has increased over the years because plastic pallets are durable, clean and they are also highly reusable—thus reducing overall cost compared to wooden options. Plastic pallets also have made it easier for food and beverage companies to meet increased sanitary regulations because of the ability to wash down them down between each use.

Wilmington Machinery introduced the company’s first Pallateer molding machine in 2010 because of an increased demand for plastic pallets. The continued success of the Pallateer machine recently caught the attention of a European company looking to mold plastic pallets in-house.

The first step for this project was for Wilmington to design the pallet that specifically met the customer’s needs and was cost-effective to produce. Next, the molding system was designed, built, and installed at the Wilmington plant.

Once installed, test pallets were run with the customer in attendance. Once the customer was trained in the operation and maintenance the entire system was disassembled and re-installed at the customer’s facility in Europe. Wilmington always spends a considerable amount of time training the operators of the equipment to ensure the success of the program.

The Pallateer system for this customer included variable frequency hydraulics and other state of the art machinery features. The Pallateer uses a structural-foam-injection method for high-specific strength and works well with 100% recycled material including granulated flake. The complete system comes with full automation, molds, pallet-transport systems, nitrogen generation, material blending and loading equipment, mold chilling and other options.

Since its founding in 1972, Wilmington Machinery has been building high performance, low-pressure structural foam molding machines. In addition, the company has built custom extrusion, thermoforming, and industrial blow molding machinery, along with a primary line of high capacity rotary blow molding systems for polyolefin monolayer/ multilayer barrier blow molded packaging. From a modern 65,000 SF facility in Wilmington, North Carolina, the company can easily meet any customer’s need for extra-large plastics machinery. International shipments can also be arranged through the nearby deep-water Port of Wilmington.
