Viking Engineering & Development has announced a strategic partnership with Joutech Handling Technology aimed at expanding automation capabilities for customers in the wood pallet and bedding sectors.
Viking, based in Blaine, Minnesota, is known for automated wood fastening systems. Joutech is an Italian automation specialist with more than 35 years of experience in material handling and industrial automation serving wood-processing applications, including pallet logistics, lumber processing systems, and high-precision handling.
In its announcement, Viking said the collaboration is intended to integrate advanced automation technologies into both new and existing Viking product lines and to introduce “non-nailing technologies” into Viking’s portfolio. The companies also framed the partnership around Industry 4.0-style digitalization, with an emphasis on improving system intelligence and data-driven decision-making in production environments.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Joutech, whose deep roots in automation and wood industry applications perfectly complement Viking’s mission to empower manufacturers with the highest quality, most productive equipment,” said Ryan McCarthy, Engineering Manager of Viking. “This collaboration unlocks exciting opportunities to enhance system intelligence, extend automation integration, and deliver higher throughput and greater operational efficiency for our customers across the globe.”
Joutech spans multiple wood-related manufacturing applications
Joutech’s background spans multiple wood-related manufacturing contexts, including pallet production, sawmill operations, and furniture and panel handling. Viking said that experience will be used to support more advanced automation workflows, expanded robotics integration, and improved digital capabilities aligned with Industry 4.0 strategies.
From the customer perspective, the partnership is positioned as a way to bring more complete automation packages to market, especially in facilities where handling complexity, throughput targets, and labor availability are putting pressure on traditional line designs. Viking also highlighted service and support as a central part of the collaboration, describing a combined approach that draws on Viking’s established network and Joutech’s technical resources.
“We are excited to start a collaboration with Viking,” said Luca Marcante, Owner and General Manager of Joutech. “In a context where automation plays an increasingly strategic role, we are proud and grateful to Viking for choosing us as its official partner for the automation of its production lines. Entering the U.S. market alongside a solid and well-established partner like Viking represents a significant milestone for us and will enable us to deliver customized solutions tailored to every customer need, ensuring a service of excellence.”
Viking described the agreement as part of its broader effort to add measurable capability for manufacturers, particularly around automation integration and modernization of production lines used in pallet and bedding operations. The companies did not disclose commercial terms or provide a timeline for specific jointly delivered systems, but indicated the work will span Viking’s installed base as well as future product development.
