Introducing Ultra Pallet, CAPS Name Change to CHEP Pallecon Solutions, Promotions at IFCO

With the announcement that CAPS has been rebranded as CHEP Pallecon Solutions, memories came flooding back. It seems like only yesterday I was helping  to wordsmith one of the early versions of the then San Francisco based CAPS website back in the latter 1990s, and now here we are some 15 years later.

So what exactly is a pallecon?

“Although the term Pallecon is common in the EMEA and APAC regions,” the company explains, “it is fairly new to North America. The word Pallecon refers to the type of containers CHEP Pallecon Solutions provides, which are Intermediate Bulk Containers with built-in pallets; hence the term is derived from the words pallet and container.”

Of course, the story of reusables continues to grow and accelerate as voiced by RPA commentary on last month’s Reusable Packaging Pavilion at PACK EXPO (see link below), and announcements related to ongoing product innovations, such as for the Ultra Pallet. (You can see the Ultra Pallet video here). Of course along with product innovations come process innovations, such as Svenska Retursystem, the Swedish grocery industry plastic pallet and container pool, launching its RFID pallet management initiative.

In the news this week, in addition to the CAPS rebranding are two notable promotions at IFCO Systems, with Fred Heptinstall appointed as Senior Vice President, Global Business Development and Dan Walsh to succeed him as President of the North American business.
