By becoming a member of Aktionskreis gegen Produkt- und Markenpiraterie e.V. (APM – Germany’s anti-piracy association), the European Pallet Association e.V. (EPAL) has taken a further step in the fight against the distribution and use of counterfeit EPAL pallets. The APM is a joint initiative of the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), the Federal Association of German Industry (BDI) and the German Trademark Association. The objective of the APM is to promote the exchange of experience among companies and between the economy and politicians, inform consumers and create a legal framework that allows the effective use of commercial property rights. Numerous notable companies are members of the APM.
Martin Leibrandt, CEO of EPAL: “EPAL conducts regular independent inspections to check whether the pallets marked with the EPAL logo meet our stringent quality requirements. The EPAL logo stands for reliable and safe transportation. Protecting our brand is, therefore, a matter we take very seriously. Unfortunately, product and trademark counterfeiting also affects transportation pallets. In the worst case, potential accidents can be caused by unfit pallets. By becoming a member of the APM, we are once again documenting our willingness to stand up against counterfeit products, and develop effective defence strategies in close collaboration with other companies.
APM President Volker Bartels: “Unfortunately the counterfeiting of marks of conformity is also on the increase. This is giving particular cause for concern because in such cases the customer expects an assured, consistent level of quality and places their trust in reliable quality characteristics.” Bartels welcomes the new member: “We are pleased that EPALs membership also highlights this problem area of product piracy.”
The common objective of the EPAL umbrella association and its 15 National Committees is to keep the open exchange pool free from counterfeits and put all measures in place to ensure the high quality of the EPAL Euro pallets for users across international borders.
