Reusable packaging continues to generate excitement as a superior economic and sustainable alternative to single-use or disposable packaging, including recyclable packaging. While reusable packaging typically is more expensive to produce than single-use packaging and consumes more resources, over the lifetime of the reusable packaging, it uses fewer resources and costs less than disposable packaging on a per-use basis, provided that the reusable is used enough times to amortize those impacts, and provided that the impact of reverse logistics, including reverse logistics, handling and sorting, sanitation and repair, etc., still make reusable a superior option. In many cases this is true.
In this category, we look at reusable transport packaging, what we would refer to as B2B reusable packaging, as well as B2C reusable packaging - reusable packaging used for direct delivery to consumers, such as for e-commerce deliveries. In the near future, we will be dividing these as sub-categories.
