Reusable packaging continues to generate excitement as a superior economic and sustainable alternative to single-use or disposable packaging, including recyclable packaging. While reusable packaging typically is more expensive to produce than single-use packaging and consumes more resources, over the lifetime of the reusable packaging, it uses fewer resources and costs less than disposable packaging on a per-use basis, provided that the reusable is used enough times to amortize those impacts, and provided that the impact of reverse logistics, including reverse logistics, handling and sorting, sanitation and repair, etc., still make reusable a superior option.
