Another PACK EXPO is in the books, and congratulations are in order for everyone involved with the Reusable Packaging Association and the Reusable Packaging Pavilion on a highly successful event. I enjoyed meeting several new members of RPA, and look forward to featuring many of them in the weeks to come, including PTM, CON-Pearl NA,, Goodpack, iMIG Systems, APR and more.
Best wishes are also in order to light fixture manufacturer Finelite, which won this year’s Excellence in Reusable Packaging Award. Click to read more about their reusable packaging case study.
Finelite presented their reusables program at one of the well attended educational sessions held at the Reusable Packaging Pavilion. Having the presentations on the show floor proved to be a winning idea, with any available seats quickly filling as presentations began.
Biggest Las Vegas PACK EXPO Show to Date
Early results from PACK EXPO Las Vegas reveal that this was PACK EXPO’s largest Las Vegas event ever. Show owner and producer PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, reports significant increases in attendance (27,759; up 7.4 percent), exhibiting companies (1,788; up 15.5 percent) and net square footage (722,437 nsf; up 14.7 percent) over the 2011 edition, which also set event records.
“PMMI’s mission is to convene the packaging and processing supply chain, and that’s exactly what PACK EXPO Las Vegas accomplished,” said Charles D. Yuska, president & CEO PMMI. He noted PACK EXPO Las Vegas drew attendees from more than 40 vertical markets by presenting a customer-centric vision that helped them navigate the show floor and the event as a whole.
New footprint pallets and containers were also on display from other providers, with the new Buckhorn 32×30″ bulk box on display, while Cabka also had some new half and quarter pallets on display. Plastic and corrugated pallet vendors seemed enthusiastic about the strength of the export pallet market.
Other stories of note this week include new reusable container announcements, such as from Buckhorn, mentioned above, and the new Clever Move Box from Schoeller Allibert. PPS East also speculates on the reason for the rationale for the increased use of reusable packaging in the fishing industry.
