In view of sustained dynamic price developments and increasing volatility, the Bundesverband Holzpackmittel – Paletten – Exportverpackung (HPE) eV will from now on collect the price index of sawn timber and wood-based materials every month in cooperation with the University of Bonn. The current wood price index is published on the HPE homepage, for which a representative cross-section of around 430 member companies is surveyed.
The individual indices indicate the purchase price development of the sawn timber and wood-based material assortments used in the industry from Germany and abroad. Other additional cost factors, such as for quality sorting, wage costs or operating costs, are not included. Both the prices for domestic purchases and for imported goods are included in the index – it is therefore not a producer price index. The calculation is carried out as usual in statistics according to Laspeyres, based on a base value in connection with weighted quantities. For the index, the HPE works together with Prof. Alois Kneip, Statistical Department of the Institute for Financial Economics and Statistics at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn.
