Reusable Packaging News recently talked about pallet machines with Bartosz Wojciechowski of PNEUMATICOUSA.COM, a brand by Airfix. Based in Beverly, Massachusetts, Bartosz is the U.S. Manufacturer’s Distributor of Pneumatico pallet making machines, a line that has proven to be highly popular in Europe for shorter run specialty pallets, including large pallets. They are also ideal for making remanufactured pallets.
RPN: Bartosz, why should pallet manufacturers and buyers be interested in your pallet making machines?
BW: “Pneumatico”, our pneumatic pallet machine, makes small orders for specialty pallets profitable again. You can effectively produce limited pallet quantities of standard or custom pallets in either block or stringer format, including large pallets.
RPN: Who is using your pallet machines?
BW: I would divide our customers into three groups. The first group includes pallet manufacturers, who, in addition to filling large quantity orders on automated lines, are also looking for a way to cost-effectively fulfil smaller, specialty pallet needs. Sometimes those low quantity orders are niche requirements for a large volume customer. Why not make them profitable?
The second customer group are manufacturers of finished products who want to produce wooden pallets for their own use. Then there is a third group that includes storage and logistics centers. They need different types of shipping pallets very quickly when packing goods with oversized dimensions.
RPN: The “Make or Buy” decision applies to many industrial companies with special pallets. When does it make sense to start a dialogue with you?
BW: Our pallet making machine customers have decided to work with us for several reasons.
I think the most important premise for pallet manufacturers was the need to be able to produce non-standardized pallets in small series. Our pallet making machine enabled them to expand their range of pallets for very demanding customers. Now they’re able to offer various pallet formats from a single source. For logistics centers and manufacturers of finished products, the reason for purchasing our Pneumatico pallet machines was the desire to become independent from other pallet manufacturers and shorten lead times. Long delivery times for packaging, including pallets, have led to production disruptions and prevented them from shipping the goods.
RPN: The construction industry has more than 200 pallet formats in circulation. How many of them can be built using your pallet making machines?
BW: The vast array of construction pallet formats was one of the key reasons why we designed Pneumatico pallet machines. Our machines can produce pallets over 10 feet (3.30 m) in width. From a half pallet to a drywall pallet, machine operators benefit from flexible adjustment options for the work area. Pallet formats such as GMA, insulation pallets or brick pool pallets can also be produced in small runs without any problems.
RPN: When does an investment in your pallet machine pay off?
BW: Changing over an automatic line to do a small series of pallets is uneconomical, and therefore such requests are often rejected by pallet suppliers. With our pallet machine, these become profitable opportunities. The average payback period when purchasing the Pneumatico pallet making machine is around 6 to 12 months, depending on the sales price of the end product as well as labor and raw material costs.
RPN: Do you have anything else you would like to tell our readers?
BW: In the last 5 years our pallet making machines have been installed at customers from Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Belgium, Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland and even from Israel. This is proven by references that we have published on our website. We are happy to answer your inquiries about custom-made products and do not shy away from any challenge.
