Smart RTI (smaRTI) Initiative Moves Forward in Germany

A group of entities has joined forces in Germany to create a system that will see RTI (reusable transport items), including pallets, letter containers and air cargo pallets, RFID tagged in a standardized IT architecture to provide more effective automated data capture in the three supply chains involved. The initiative, known as smaRTI, involves the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML), in conjunction with German food retailer Rewe, Mars Deutschland, Deutsch Post and CHEP Deutschland, which will supply pallets.
