New small footprint pallet from ORBIS unleashes the potential for omni-channel distribution.
With all of the buzz around strategies such as omni-channel distribution (read my Pallet Enterprise column here), and increased penetration of small format retail locations such as those being rolled out such as Walmart Express, the timing is perfect for attention to smaller footprint pallet offerings – such as the new 42×30-inch Small-format HP Pallet being introduced by ORBIS. This pallet, says ORBIS, is offered to streamline the supply chain of small footprint retailers by eliminating touch points from the distribution center (DC) to retail sales floor.
With retailers seeking to broaden their market reach with the creation of small-format stores, these companies are redefining the optimal material handling approach for delivering their merchandise efficiently from the truck into store back room or right to the sales floor, while in the process, striving to minimize product damage, reduce merchandising labor costs and otherwise enjoy the benefits of floor ready promotions in boosting sales.

Increasingly, case and split-cases can be sorted and loaded at the DC or other load customization service provider onto a smaller format platform such as the 42 x 30 Small-format HP Pallet. On the smaller footprint pallet, the load is then delivered to the store and used as a replenishment vehicle at the point of sale. Once pallets arrive at the retailer, they can be moved directly to the floor, reducing product touch labor costs and maximizing storage space.
At a width of 30 inches, the Small-format HP Pallet is ideally suited for the unique challenges of smaller retail formats such as navigating through narrow doorways and tight store aisles, and of course, providing an appropriate point of sale base on a smaller sales floor. Its contoured corners won’t damage product and the solid body construction accommodates a variety of load sizes and weights.
The 42 x 30 Small-Format HP Pallet offers:
- Faster deliveries, with 30” pallet width that provides access through narrow doorways and maneuverability in store
- Truckload density, with 45 pallet locations per 53’ trailer
- Generous clearance for forklifts to de-nest a full stack of pallets, with slanted fork entry and a discontinuous, stepped pallet lip
- Ease of manual handling, with a 20 lb tare weight and ergonomic hand holes
- Added efficiency with molded-in stretch wrap notches in each pallet corner
The non-porous, hygienic construction enables easy floor cleaning and handling within the retail environment. ORBIS pallets are fully recyclable at the end of their service life.
