Award-winning fiber-based solution, EdgePak Collar, expands to larger sizes, offering an alternative to wood

JÖNKÖPING, Sweden – September 2025 – Nefab has launched the latest version of its EdgePak Collar, a lightweight, fiber-based alternative to wooden pallet collars designed for one-way shipments. With expanded sizes and enhanced performance features, the EdgePak Collar provides industries such as automotive and mining with a more sustainable and cost-efficient option when return logistics are not practical.
“Many companies still use wooden pallet collars for one-way shipments, creating unnecessary waste and costs,” said Johan Tegell, Product Area Director at Nefab. “We worked closely with our customers to develop EdgePak Collar—a lighter, recyclable, and cost-effective alternative that significantly reduces both landfill waste and emissions without compromising functionality.”
Reducing Emissions and Waste in One-Way Logistics
According to Nefab’s Life Cycle Analysis, replacing wooden pallet collars with the EdgePak Collar in one-way flows can cut CO₂-eq emissions by 34%, reduce landfill waste by 49%, and lower collar weight by 40% compared to wood. The weight reduction also translates into significant savings in air freight—up to 16% lower—while the collars remain compatible with existing processes through standard dimensions and quick assembly.

Building on the success of its half-pallet format, Nefab has expanded the EdgePak Collar line to include full-pallet options in EUR (1200x800mm) and US (48″ x 40″) sizes, alongside the original ½ EUR (800x600mm). Customers can now select from a range of standardized lids and bottoms tailored to different load capacities. Reinforced corrugated designs and insertable strawboard corners improve stiffness and stability, ensuring better product protection during handling and stacking.
The EdgePak Collar was recently awarded a 2025 WorldStar Award, one of the packaging industry’s top global honors. The award highlights the solution’s ability to deliver sustainability and cost savings while maintaining operational efficiency.
“As part of our mission to reduce CO₂-eq emissions by 10 million tons in customer supply chains by 2030, we are dedicated to creating solutions that benefit both the environment and our clients,” Tegell added. “The EdgePak Collar plays an essential role in this mission—rethinking packaging design to reduce emissions and minimize resource use, one step at a time.”
