Part of the Faber Halbertsma Group, the largest manufacturer of high quality pallets in Europe, and the company is continuously seeking ways to improve the distribution process. This includes operating strategically located regional distribution centres and implant operations with logistics partners to minimise road miles.
However, Phil Storer, European commercial director at IPP Logipal, believes there is room for further improvement across the industry and is calling for closer working partnerships to drive improvements.
“Collaboration is a key driver in sustaining an environmental supply chain solution,” says Storer. “At IPP Logipal our model is focused on delivering and collecting pallets with the clear aim to eliminate unnecessary mileage and cost. By working with like-minded logistics businesses, we’ve established a returns network that has been developed to reduce our carbon footprint and that of the customer.”
Using its pallet pooling expertise and thorough quality control checks, pallets are maintained in excellent condition to ensure longevity and to reduce the frequency for repair journeys and replacement manufacture.
Storer continues: “We’re constantly looking at initiatives that will improve sustainability and for an increasing number of volume customers we now handle quality control checks on site. This eliminates unnecessary transport as most return to the supply chain and only a small number are transported for repair.
“For many customers it’s really important to have a transparent and easy to administer service as this enables them to focus on core activities, secure in the knowledge that products are being transported cost effectively, safely, efficiently and in an environmentally responsible way.”
As part of its long-standing approach to sustainability, IPP Logipal has FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) accreditation standards. Both are reassurances that timber comes from sustainable forests, which are carefully managed and ensures traceable origins.
