IKEA has been in the news about its new paper pallet program, but now also for its residual wood pallets as well. Four people have been indicted in France as part of an investigation into the theft of 22,000 pallets from an IKEA warehouse, valued at over 200,000 euros. After noticing significant shortfalls in its pallet inventory, it filed a complaint two months ago. Police have identified the involvement of an employee at the warehouse located in Toussieu, as well as three other individuals.
According to police, a trailer was brought to the warehouse at night and loaded with pallets, which were taken away for resale. The first thefts began in September 2010.
It goes without saying that pallets should not be taken for granted. They are assets and should be managed on an ongoing basis, not only with respect to trading partners, but also location inventory. Great solutions are available to help pallet owners maintain great pallet control, such as 2ic Pallets, from 2ic Software.
