- Ultralight and Efficient Design: Nestor weighs only 14kg, making it significantly lighter than wooden pallets. Its space-saving design allows for more pallets per truckload, reducing transportation costs and carbon emissions.
- Enhanced Trackability: The new pallet features advanced technologies like Bluetooth, GPS, and QR codes, improving traceability throughout the supply chain as part of the IFCO Pallet SmartCycle.
- Environmental and Cost Benefits: The durable design reduces the need for frequent inspections and repairs, contributing to sustainability and lower maintenance costs in fresh food logistics.

Madrid, Spain, October 2024 – IFCO, a global leader in reusable packaging solutions, has launched Nestor, its latest ultralight, reusable plastic pallet at the Fruit Attraction event in Madrid. Weighing just 14 kg, it is designed for optimized logistics in the fresh food industry, providing significant environmental and logistical benefits. IFCO’s new pallet can fit 1,386 empty pallets in a single truckload, more than twice as many as conventional wooden pallets. “With Nestor, our customers cut down transport legs by 62%, reducing CO2 emissions and costs,” said Marco Geremia, Sales Director Plastic Pallet Europe at IFCO.
Nestor’s design also features wider feet for better stability, metal reinforcement for carrying loads up to 1,000kg, and a ventilated structure, making it ideal for fresh produce. Geremia added, “Ventilation is enhanced and order picking is made easy and safe. At the same time, we’ve ensured a solid rack performance.” The pallet is ISO 8611 tested, ensuring durability and load-bearing capability.
Nestor Features Advanced Tracking Technologies
Available exclusively through IFCO’s closed-loop Pallet SmartCycle, the new plastic pallet integrates advanced tracking technologies, including Bluetooth, GPS, and QR codes, improving traceability throughout the supply chain. Inigo Canalejo, Vice President ESG and Strategic Marketing at IFCO, emphasized the environmental benefits of Nestor, stating, “Nestor brings substantial environmental savings to the fresh grocery supply chain. Our superior durable design eliminates the need for frequent inspections and repairs that are common with conventional wooden pallets.”
Nestor builds on IFCO’s existing reusable plastic pallet offerings, including the Dora pallet, which was launched earlier this year. Dora is built for heavier loads and is well-suited for automated environments like warehouses and production lines. Both pallets are part of the IFCO Pallet SmartCycle, which enhances efficiency with automatic digital tracking and simplified logistics planning. The addition of Nestor and Dora allows IFCO to offer tailored solutions for the diverse needs of fresh produce logistics and industrial applications.
With a focus on durability, efficiency, and environmental responsibility, IFCO’s new Nestor pallet aims to revolutionize fresh food logistics, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional wooden pallets.
