DS Smith Sells International Pallet Services Provider Demes Logistics

DS Smith Plc (SMDS), the international packaging manufacturer and office products wholesaler, has completed the sale of the business and assets of Demes Logistics to Cartonplast Holding, the international transport packaging group. Demes had gross assets of €11.2m as at 31 October 2009.

Demes had become a non-core business within the Group’s Plastic Packaging segment.

According to the Demes website, the Demes Logistics GmbH & Co. KG pallet service was founded almost 30 years ago and became a member of the British packaging concern DS Smith plc in 1999. With its international management services, Demes has more than 200 employees reaching a turnover exceeding the 40 million Euros mark in the international pallet services area. Demes customers include large businesses of the European glass container industry, where it is market leader in this area. Demes’ also provides the food/non-food industry with made-to-measure rental services and organizes their complete multi-trip logistics.

The product portfolio includes a variety of wood and plastic pallets.

Demes self-maintain 17 service centres in Germany, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Great Britain and France. Together with their customers, Demes handle an annual amount of more than 30 million pallets and plastic layer pads which, after intensive inspection and cleaning, flow back “just-in-time” into the logistic circulation. Internal and external transport solutions are used for the collection of returns.
