- Brambles surpasses FY24 financial guidance with strong profit and cash flow performance.
- Significant asset efficiency improvements reduce capital expenditure by $580 million.
- Dividend up 30%; $500 million share buy-back planned for FY25.

Brambles has delivered a robust financial performance in FY24, surpassing its guidance and demonstrating the effectiveness of its “Shaping Our Future” transformation program. This initiative has significantly improved asset efficiency and operational leverage across the company’s global supply chain, laying the foundation for sustained growth and value creation.
Operational Success Marked by Asset Efficiency
The company reported a 7% increase in sales revenue, primarily driven by strategic pricing actions to offset rising costs. Despite challenges such as inventory optimization efforts by retailers and manufacturers, Brambles maintained steady volumes, setting the stage for anticipated growth in FY25.
Brambles’ ability to navigate these challenges was bolstered by its commitment to improving asset efficiency. Approximately 12 million pallets were returned across the company’s network, a direct result of inventory optimization efforts. This not only enhanced asset efficiency but also led to increased costs in repair, handling, storage, and transport. However, the gains in efficiency and strategic investments made during the year more than offset these additional costs, contributing to a 17% rise in Underlying Profit.
Graham Chipchase, CEO of Brambles, expressed confidence in the company’s achievements, stating, “We are proud of what we have achieved this year with marked improvements to the customer experience in all regions, the reinforcement of our leading sustainability credentials, and financial outcomes that delivered on our investor value proposition. Our achievements reflect the progress of our transformation program which has improved the fundamentals of our business. This includes increasing operational and asset efficiencies as well as building new commercial and digital capabilities that strengthen our competitive advantage and value creation potential.”
Capital Efficiency and Strategic Transformation
A standout achievement for Brambles in FY24 was the significant improvement in capital efficiency, particularly through reduced capital expenditure. The company reported a US$580 million reduction in capital spending, primarily due to a decrease in pallet purchases—about 15 million fewer—resulting from enhanced asset efficiency. This efficiency led to a 10-percentage point improvement in Brambles’ pooling capital expenditure to sales ratio, now at 13%, highlighting the success of the company’s transformation initiatives.
Chipchase emphasized the impact of these initiatives, saying, “Our profit and cash flow performance were ahead of guidance despite incremental costs associated with additional pallet returns as retailers and manufacturers largely completed inventory optimization initiatives. This resilience reflects the investments we have made to increase the capacity and agility of our network through automation, as well as structural reductions in the capital intensity of our business linked to our sustained focus on asset efficiency and broader improvements in supply chain dynamics.”
Brambles’ strong financial position has allowed the company to focus on enhancing shareholder value. The company declared a final dividend of 19.00 US cents per share, bringing the total dividends for FY24 to 34.00 US cents per share—a notable 30% increase from the prior year. Additionally, Brambles announced an on-market share buy-back of up to US$500 million in FY25, underscoring its commitment to returning value to shareholders.
Looking ahead to FY25, Brambles expects continued growth, forecasting sales revenue growth of 4-6% and Underlying Profit growth of 8-11%. Ongoing efficiency improvements and a return to volume growth in key markets support these projections.
“Our FY25 financial outlook delivers our investor value proposition. It reflects our ongoing focus on commercial discipline, pursuing new business growth in key markets, and delivering further efficiencies through our transformation program,” Chipchase said. “The structural improvements in Free Cash Flow generation combined with our strong financial position underscore the two capital management initiatives announced today.”
Strategic Growth Initiatives
As Brambles continues to build on its strong FY24 results, the company remains focused on enhancing its asset efficiency and customer service capabilities. The completion of inventory optimization across its network positions Brambles to capitalize on growth opportunities in the coming year.
The company’s investments in digital transformation, including the expansion of its Serialisation+ trial, are expected to yield significant benefits, enabling Brambles to maintain its market leadership. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to leverage the company’s circular business model, reduce costs, and deliver value-added solutions to customers.
