The Timber Packaging & Pallet Confederation (TIMCON) has expressed its support for the Wooden Panel Industries’ Federation (WPIF) new Stop Burning Our Trees campaign.
John Dye, President of the Timber Packaging & Pallet Confederation, said: “The Timber Packaging & Pallet Confederation fully supports the Stop Burning Our Trees campaign. Subsidising biomass may appear to be good for the environment; however, the practice encourages the burning of solid carbon-storing wood, which would have a much longer and beneficial lifespan being used in manufacture of a range of useful products.
TIMCON is working closely with associated industries to communicate the importance of their shared messages about the damaging caused by biomass subsidies to British industry and the environment.
“We, along with our colleagues in all Britain’s forest-based industries, welcome this initiative as a further step towards communicating this vital issue to policy makers. We are campaigning for a change in the current system to ensure that wood resources are used to maximum advantage; for British businesses and for the environment.”
