Small Format Solutions Under Microscope

With the trend towards small retail format retailing on the uptick, customers are closely studying approaches that will reduce delivery time and ease stocking and merchandising at small retail outlets.  Targeting these concerns, the Small-Format Solutions Center, ORBIS will provide demonstrations of its totes and pallets for small format retailers, ranging from its new 42 x 30 Small-Format Pallet through to tote/dolly systems. The goal of these products is to reduce touch points throughout the supply chain, while increasing delivery speed and optimizing truckload space.

Once again, ORBIS representatives will be available to walk attendees through its “5-Step Supply Chain Optimization Process”, an approach designed to improve the movement of goods throughout the customer’s supply chain, while delivering overall cost reduction and sustainability gains. The process, ORBIS notes, offers customized solutions, measurable ROI and significant environmental benefits. The company reports that the 5-Step approach has been a proven success for many of today’s leading Fortune 500 international companies in the industrial, consumer, food and beverage industries.

In addition to featuring its “5-step process,” ORBIS will also showcase new reusable packaging products and services they’ve developed to help companies move product safely and efficiently within the supply chain, with significant cost reduction. Demonstrations at the ORBIS booth will include an array of innovative designs the company has developed to shift traditional thinking for reusable packaging and how those new designs benefit customers:

  • Small Format Pallet — 42” x 30” nestable pallet designed to optimize the supply chains of small format stores by promoting vertical trailer cube space and enabling maneuverability for in-store storage and replenishment.
  • Tote and Dolly Mobile Solutions – ORBIS’ newest FliPak totes are compatible with dollies for rapid store replenishment and omni-channel applications.
  • Stack’R Pallet — Expanded 40” x 48” Stack’R plastic pallet line includes an array of user options, from a non-rackable stacking pallet to a fully edge-rackable pallet that racks up to 3,000 lbs.
  • OPTE Bulk — This sleevepack features a proprietary “active latch” that enables workers to engage and release the sleeve from the pallet from a standing position, with no bending required. *An MHI Innovation Award finalist.
  • ORBIShield™ — The industry’s most comprehensive single-source provider for entire systems of containers, pallets, bulk containers and protective dunnage, ORBIS now offers a full suite of dunnage products and solutions under one name. Custom-designed and constructed with durability in mind, ORBIShield™ dunnage provides the level of part protection required during transit, assembly and storage.

Additionally, ORBIS kicked off 2015 with the grand opening of their first manufacturing facility in Mexico, and will provide updated information on the new plant at ProMat. The 265,000 sq. foot plant, located in Silao, Guanajuato, employs approximately more than140 people. In addition to its existing long-time sales and design team, ORBIS now provides local manufacturing and distribution capabilities enabling it to be more responsive to the needs of customers in Latin America. The new plant is also the first ORBIS facility to offer injection and structural foam molding, as well as dunnage fabrication, all under one roof.

ORBIS will also present two on-floor theater sessions, giving attendees a chance to learn how today’s largest companies are currently driving efficiencies within their supply chain through the use of reusable plastic packaging.
