GM Europe Continues Partnership with CHEP

Cologne – CHEP, the global leader in pallet and container pooling services, has announced that GM Europe once again has chosen CHEP as its pooling service provider. The two companies have committed to work together until July 2016.

GM Europe was the first European Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to launch with CHEP Automotive in 1993, and since then the carmaker has used the services of CHEP’s automotive business.

CHEP Director European Key Accounts, David Mayo said: “We are delighted that GM Europe, as a result of a robust open tender process, has chosen CHEP again. We look forward to continuing the excellent partnership that we have enjoyed to date.”

CHEP’s experience in the automotive business, as well as the advantages offered by its unique pooling approach to lowering cost and increasing efficiency in logistics, enable OEMs to focus on their core activity, manufacturing cars.

While other logistics systems require customers to purchase and maintain their own pallets and containers, the CHEP system does away with the need for capital investment. Moreover, the availability of quality pallets and containers is assured.

CHEP’s dedicated GM Europe key account manager and customer service staff ensure a quick and competent support to GM’s plants and supply chains across Europe.

CHEP’s pooling system ensures that the movement of empty containers and pallets is reduced to an absolute minimum, thus reducing emissions and generating a real benefit for the environment. Mr Mayo said: “Our total container management pooling solutions are also recognised as reducing the impact of logistics on the environment and will have played a part in GM Europe’s decision.”

The contract with GM Europe includes about 12.2 million product movements annually across the continent.

The contract extension follows the successful launch in 2008 of the CHEP SAP management system for GM Europe’s self-owned specialist containers. This enabled a standardisation of systems and processes across all plants in a real-time environment, eliminating interfaces and allowing a central overview of assets and flows for both parties.
